UPDATE--21 June, 2018---as of this date, NOTHING has been done. Acme sent me a generic rubber-stamp response, that they had received my letter, and would get back to me.

Nothing has been done. However, a week later I figured I'd go in and check to see if the green prosciutto was any greener---and still for sale. The two losers there previously were gone. A different young lady waited on me this time...very polite, nice smile.

I asked for prosciutto...she did not know what it was, would I show her?? There was a brand-new package in the case. As she removed it, I heard someone say to her, "she is going to ask for it sliced and in a stack". I suspect that the two other ladies in the back frying chicken were talking among themselves.

I thanked the young lady when she handed me my order. When I called back, "How did you ladies know what I was going to ask for?" they both laughed.

From that, I gather that crap hit the fan, and they know who I am now. It still would have been nice to get that follow-up from the honchoes.

Every once in awhile, someone or something *** me off.

Today, it was two helmet heads in the Acme deli; a young guy with the IQ of garden vegetables, and a rude old lady who deserves to be fired...just because.

When the dude is Customer Service just listened and did nothing, I came home and fired off a letter to Acme Markets Corporate.

How do you like this??

I have been a loyal customer of the Acme Market on Main Rd. in Vineland, NJ for as long as that store has been open.

I have been a grocery shopper since the day I got my driver's license. Mom hated shopping, so I did it for her. I raised twin sons, and have shopped for my weekly needs with 2 carts in tow. I have seen a lot in 43 years of grocery shopping. This afternoon, I almost left my cart and walked out of the store.

I visit Acme twice a week. Many of their employees are really stellar people. Rosa, back in Meats, is a former student. She is as adorable and charming as she was back when she was in my Science class 23 years ago. Lorena is also a former student; I worked with her Mama back in the 80s, when she was a knockout of a Cocktail waitress and I was a Cashier Supervisor. Then there is Ben, a very diminutive gentleman who is always smiling and friendly. There are many more employees, very charming and helpful...Today I met two of the earwigs under the barrel...rude, nasty people with no common sense and no understanding of the concept that "The Customer Is Always Right".

I picked up some pre-sliced cheese, then went over to get a bit of Italian specialty lunchmeat. As a second generation Italian, married to an Italian-born immigrant, there are some things that are treats in our home, for sandwiches, salads, appetizers or main dishes. Prosciutto is one of those meats. I can get prosciutto cured in white wine ("domestic") at Santori's down the road, for about $8/lb. Cured in wine makes the meat dark red-brown, depending on how it's sliced... AND the prosciutto is half the price...Imported is anywhere from bright-red to brown-red with white marbling (like my husband's father makes). The red color is in part from the salts used in curing.

I looked in the cases, and saw no prosciutto.

A slender, snarky-faced young man came up, and I asked him if there was any prosciutto; I wanted to buy some.

He opened the glass case, and held up a chunk of sloppily wrapped meat, grayish in color with a green spot on the side. I expressed my displeasure loudly.

I asked if there was another one; explaining that the ham was very clearly spoiled.

As he reached for the new, fresh, pink ham piece, an older woman appeared from nowhere. "You are not allowed to open a new one. You have to use the open one first!" She scolded the young man, who looked confused.

Turning to me, she tried to explain "it's just the lighting. That meat is fine. When you take it home, you will see!!"

I informed her that if it is gray and green to me here, it will be even worse to my son, who is a pharmacy formulation chemist and is even more picky about what he eats than I am.

After getting told by Madam Shrew of the Deli, that it was spoiled prosciutto or NO PROSCIUTTO, I left. I wanted to shove that mold-riddled chunk of crap down her throat!

Instead, I informed the young man at the Customer Service desk. He listened, all right--but he never left the front of the store to verify my complaint nor did he make a phone call to verify my story.

As I checked out, I told my story to the people in line with me. The guy behind me told me that he wanted horseradish, but all of the jars in the cold case across from the fish counter were 3 weeks or more past date. I wasn't surprised to find out that everyone there found themselves checking dates on more than just milk and meats over the past several months.

Acme Management, you are a disgrace. I'd like you to know about this, and I want to know what you intend to do to keep your associates on the ball. Maybe some training and some consequences for their actions might make employees more respectful of the people shopping in your store...without whom you guys would be boarded up just like your predecessor, A&P.

RULE #1 of retail---The customer is always right. If it looks spoiled, and you wouldn't eat it, what makes you think I (or any other customer) would??

Reason of review: Poor customer service.

Preferred solution: Fire the woman who wanted me to buy and eat toxic food. Set up training for employees regarding how to know when to throw food out. Have a REAL MANAGER on duty, not a teen aged kid. .

ACME Markets Pros: Close to home, Lancaster brand meats, Produce is always clean.

ACME Markets Cons: Customer service and manager handling of situation, Customer service, Constantly shifting stock around in the store.

Location: 301 S Main Rd, Vineland, NJ 08360, USA
